On Thursday September 7th 2022, Amity College, hosted one of the most interesting mathematics competitions ever held in NSW. The event organised by Amity College was named as Mathscup 13 years ago. 75 teams comprised of 225 year 6 students from 33 different schools all around Sydney competed with each other to be the winner of this most anticipated Maths Competition.
In the words of organisers Mathscup promised to be an electrifying competition which would redefine how students experience Maths. It is designed to encourage a greater student interest in mathematics, to put the fun back into functions, to create a desire to solve challenging puzzles, and to foster a burgeoning joy within students for problem solving and teamwork.
The participants all confirmed that the competition was even more than it promised.
“My kids love The MathsCup. It is so challenging, intense and fun all rolled in one. This competition is amazing, and I thank you for providing such a brilliant experience for primary school students all over Sydney.” said a teacher from Dural Public.
“MathsCup is a real challenge, I haven’t had a challenge like this for a long time” said one of the students while another one mentioning that the competition made her enjoy maths again.”
“Maths Cup is a competition of its own. It combines all elements of maths with fun and produces an exciting and challenging competition. We were for long dreaming to realise it. Our maths faculty put a great effort and organisation in it and it is a great pleasure to see the way it is recognised. We are looking forward to do it again next year,” said Alina Zhang from Amity College, the competition organiser.
Besides the joy remaining from the day each student in the winning team won valuable prizes for themselves, teachers and schools and of course the MathsCup trophy.
